In June 2012 we had the great opportunity of participating as part of a multidisciplinary design team on a project about imagining a future scenario for Adelaide’s West End. We became one of the seven design teams selected to take part in 'Speculations 2012', a project initiated by the Integrated Design Commission (IDC) and 5000+ to ‘imagine alternative, but realistic, future scenarios for inner Adelaide, that will give direction to all those who have a stake in, or jurisdiction over, the future of our city.’
We joined Flightpath Architects and Oxigen Landscape Architects to create a diversely skilled design team that offered expertise across a broad spectrum, from built form, to the public realm to visual communication. This was an exciting project to be involved in, to openly share and cross-pollinate ideas, to collaborate with other designers and ultimately create a collective vision for the future of the West End.
Our team's three member companies have worked in the West End for some 30 years, giving us an affinity for the area that was invaluable in developing a proposal that was informed and relevant to the culture and 'vibe' of the precinct.
The results of our efforts along with the other six participating teams are on display now as a part of the ‘Collaborative City’ Exhibition, hosted by the IDC and 5000+. The exhibition is open to the public from the 15-26 of October 2012 at Tuxedo Cat, 200 North Terrace in the City. Head to the official website here.
It is certainly a positive initiative and one that proves that world class, innovative thinking is alive and well in Adelaide. We will be following any further efforts by the IDC and will keep you updated.
